Sunday 20th October 2019

Well, we have tried our best in order to provide this free service, but due to lack of page hits and low numbers of commenters, we do not think this service is appreciated sufficiently to make it worthwhile continuing.

Thank you to everyone who did bother to get in touch and special thanks to the site host for providing a platform. Hopefully some of what I’ve linked to over the years on Wings and on here will have been of some use.

Should anyone want to use the page get in touch with Nick here https://indyref2.space/

Personal life and pressures can jump out at you when you least expect (Oh boy, do I ever understand that).

Just know that whilst I don’t comment as often as I used to on many sites, I still make a point of visiting your oasis of calm near every day. You’re work is appreciated Nana. Believe it.

Strange times Nana, with men behaving badly – in fact, madly.

Footfall I think is well down on some main pro-Indy sites, maybe people taking a breather and totally scunnered with Brexit.

    Thanks for the links!

Nana, I wish you would change your mind, I really do, but if you have made the firm decision to move on I wish you, and Norman, all the very best for the future. A fantastic future in an Independent Scotland which believe me when I say you have contributed greatly to.

A big thank you too, to the site host.

PS Maybe see you on WGD’s sometime XX

    Nana,
Sorry that not enough of us are taking the opportunity of using your links. They really are a comprehensive source covering all we need to know.

Perhaps people are feeling crushed by the state of things? I am totally confused myself – should SNP be fighting so hard to stop Brexit at Westminster? Or should they be putting that effort into withdrawing from Westminster finally?

All I do for the cause is send Cairns cartoons and a letter to my local paper most weeks and find that takes up enough time [though to be fair I am also treasurer and trustee for an old church building that needs £250,000 spent on it so I am preoccupied!]. Anyway, many thanks to you and Norman for all your work. Look after yourselves as best you can. And pray for something to go right for Scotland soon.
    All the best.

Having only discovered your links a few weeks ago, this is sad to hear.. This is my first comment, but visited regularly since coming across it, I hope you change your mind. Without platforms like this the movement will be portrayed as petering out -which I don’t really think it is, I do however think people are just a wee bit scunnered with the the whole thing at the mo.. We all get scunnered sometimes Nana.. think on me in my wee shop in Girvan with no sales day after day after day after…
Whatever you do, I wish you all the best and thank you for your time and trouble.😊

I hope that you will reconsider this, as I can’t believe I’m the only one who finds your links an fantastic read. I read almost all of your links every day.

More and more, I find this page my go-to first page when I switch into politics mode…

Okey doke, this is what might be a problem. I remember looking days / weeks ago and not seeing any comment box, and just figured it might be my old setup. What I did earlier (yesterday now) was to click “comments”, and THEN you see a Comment box. If you just click the date you don’t see a comment box. Just a thought.

Ah right, when you HAVE clicked on comments there’s back and for navigation between the site posted material and any comments made, plus you get the comment box on all pages then. Just trying to help, that could put lazy hasty people like me off. Night all!

I’m very sorry about your decision, Nana, but understand it completely.

I had hoped this site would have developed into a place where information and comment could be shared without the endless squabbling, egotism and paranoia below the line which has affected other indy blogs but sadly it was always a case of use it or lose it. You provided a free and very time-consuming service when I know the simple act of typing could often cause you great discomfort.

I wish you and Norman all the best in your future independence endeavours.

Mornin Nana, I have to agree with the other posters, especially Tinto @ 9.50.

We had been away for the weekend and I came home to find your email in my inbox. I was really sad about it. Anyway I have replied to you in person, so no need to go through it again.

I really don’t know what I’ll do now, yours was about the only indy sight that I read on a regular basis. I’ve all but given up on most of them, except The Wee Ginger Dug. Paul is also a haven of sense and calm in these turbulent times.

Thanks to you and your other half for all that you have done for us in the indy movement. When independence comes, it will be because of folks like your good selves and the unstinting time and work that you have put in to it.

Take care Nana, and all the best.

I’m sorry to see you stopping Nana, and I’m guilty too for not dropping in.

I would say say however Nana, it takes time to establish a footprint online. Even the very best sites take months, even years to build up traffic . It’s often not enough just being there.

I felt BTL on Wings was great wee niche, and a daily check-in, and I’m genuinely sorry you couldn’t settle your differences. It seemed to me just a wee spat about an automatic moderation filter clashing with automatic link protocols, no humans involved, and suddenly it all went pear shaped. Is it irretrievable?

I don’t know what’s happening. In 2014, you’d turn over stone and find green shoots of a new YES resource springing forward. 2019, and we can’t even take care of the resources we’ve got, nevermind sprout new ones. We are all running on empty.

It’s grim. No good will come of it.

Sorry folks for not replying sooner, laid low by a nasty virus but all better now.

There seems to be a feeling of apathy settling in amongst the Yes movement which was bound to happen eventually after so long waiting for a campaign. With all the focus on Brexit, depression sets in and people start to argue and fall out. A campaign would lift folks out of the doldrums and bring people back together with a common purpose.
    Hopefully that will happen soon.

And just so you know my pitchfork remains oiled and well sharpened!

Let’s hope there is a Sec30 demand and a date very soon.

I can’t believe it is coincidence Wings has become a problem rather than an asset just when we are so close.

Nana good to hear that you’re on the mend now and I’m sure that things will start moving for us fairly soon. Application for a Section 30 Order. Refusal? and off to the Courts followed by an Indyref2 announcement. Done and dusted, lol.

Many thanks nana for all the links you have provided over the years. I have read most of them daily. I didn’t realise there was a comments box. My apologies.
I read WGD daily too and find Paul’s posts very calming.
I used to enjoy Wings, but it has gotten very bitter and full of hate recently. Very sad.
Maybe if/when indyref2 is called then things will pick up again. I really really hope so and hope it is very soon. I really really want Scotland to be independent again.

Oh well, it looks as though the MSM has done a great job and that their propaganda could backfire on them. No wonder increasing numbers south of the border want rid of us. Right up our street.

Use it or lose it folks. Why don’t we post informative data on here, as Nana did on Wings? This could be one of the few sites doing so, by the looks of it. And who knows if we did Nana may reconsider her position?

For example I see that yesindyref2 is on here. Fairly missed his ”military” posts elsewhere. What about it?

      I agree with you Petra.

Not much going on the military front, except a paper from Stuart Crawford (joint author of A’ the Blue Bonnets) from last year I missed and will have to catch up on. He’s come up with a defence budget of £1.1 billion now, even less than before, apaprently it’s less about army than his other one, but predicated on Lossiemouth being a contribution to NATO / rUK, which is along the lines of something I mooted a few times. But I never thought of reducing our defence budget to suit!

An interesting one from May which Nana may have posted already:

    https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/brexit/2019/05/02/brexit-is-a-form-of-secession/

“Brexit is a form of secession – Scotland and Northern Ireland might soon follow”

via Mr T, one of the few posters left on that practically moribund, err, other site.

As a wee side note by the way, LSE was always a good resource during the first Indy Ref and after, I think it’s partly because it has such an international load of students and staff. Many years ago I used to know people from there. Perhaps it’s less “UK institutionalised” than others, and curiously Manchester U is another.

BUT LSE warned how the freedom of movement will badly affect it, no idea what the current status is with academia.

OK, looks like there is an appetite for another site for refugees to post on and share links and information. What would the best format be ?

I can set up a forum . . . that way people can post and comment and so start their own topics.

    Is that a good idea?

An open forum is a good idea but not if it is used as a means of slagging off other sites and bloggers. At the end of the day Stuart Campbell and Wings was the ‘go to’ space for debate and information and I’m certain it will be again.

When indyref2 comes around, I’m sure everyone will come together and they will be needed to get the message out, be it a WBB2 or leaflets or whatever.

People right now are giving voice to their fears with a few trolls climbing on board, the trolls are always lurking around. I meet with people regularly who are scared stiff at what may be coming at us and we must be able to see things from side, I don’t shout anyone down when they are only looking for answers or a little reassurance. Not everybody can or will be an SNP devotee. So rather than fall out over their opinions, debate in a reasonable fashion and if not then we really are in a sorry state.

The last thing the Yes movement needs is more division.

Now getting a wee taste of what Scotland has had to put up with for decades. Strange that no one noticed it before.

‘British journalists have become part of Johnson’s fake news machine.’

”It’s chilling. From the Mail, The Times to the BBC and ITN, everyone is peddling Downing Street’s lies and smears. They’re turning their readers into dupes.”

In the meantime let me add my appreciation to that of the others here, and echo Breeks comments on the time it takes to establish an online “presence”. (I may possibly not have helped, since I have Ghostery loaded on my browser and get it to stop as much “hidden stuff” as possible.)
